In July 2005, a Mission Team from Sleepy Hollow United Methodist Church, working in cooperation with the Center for Christian Action (C4CA), traveled to Pocahontas (Virginia) to repair some homes. Then in December of that year many of the same Team returned to buy Christmas gifts for children whose parents had asked the Center for help. The mission momentum continued in January 2006 when many folks in the church got together and made blankets which were also delived to the C4CA for free distribution to local families. During the springtime a survey team looked-over several candidates who had asked the C4CA for home repairs. Then in June 2006 a Mission Team returned to do home repairs and help the Pocahontas Baptist Church with their Vacation Bible School (VBS). Returning again in December, a larger team once again purchased and delivered to the C4CA Christmas gifts for local children. During 2007, we also went on two mission trips with the same objectives of the previous years: in June we performed repairs on 5-6 homes for clients of the C4CA, and assisted the Pocahontas Baptist Church with their VBS. In December we bought Christmas gifts for local children with the assistance of the C4CA. During the last full week of June 2008, we returned to assist the Pocahontas Baptist Church with their Outrigger Island VBS, and perform some home repairs for clients of the C4CA. Click here to see a video summary of the experience. And click here to read a report about how we prepared for the trip. On the first weekend in December 2008, we returned to buy Christmas gifts for local children who left a "wish list" on the Christmas tree in the Center For Christian Action office. During 2010 the church will focus on both local and extended mission opportunities. Check back here to see what develops through-out the year. |
